The Tourism Industry New Zealand Trust (TINZT) was established in 2007 for the following charitable purposes:

  • The education of persons involved in the New Zealand tourism industry and the education of all persons in New Zealand on matters relating to or for use in the tourism industry in New Zealand. 
  • The fostering and promotion of a tourism industry in New Zealand based on the sustainable use and preservation of New Zealand’s natural assets. 

TINZT owns and derives income from key New Zealand tourism industry events including TRENZ. 

Tourism Industry Aotearoa (TIA) is the Trust Manager.


The Trustees

Chair: Dame Kerry Prendergast 

Dame Kerry is a Director of Oceania Healthcare, Fish Serve and a Trustee of both the Wellington International Arts Foundation and the New Zealand Community Trust.

She is the Chair of Wellington Free Ambulance, Wellington Opera, the Royal New Zealand Ballet and the Victoria Foundation.

She formerly chaired Tourism New Zealand, the New Zealand Film Commission, the Environmental Protection Agency and the New Zealand Festival.

In January 2019 she became a Dame Companion (DNZM) for services to governance and the community, after being awarded a CNZM in 2011 for her services to local government.

In July 2016 she was awarded a Lifetime Excellence Award for Outstanding Contribution to Local Government.


Steve Hayes

Audit & International Contact Partner, RSM New Zealand

Steve Hayes has been with RSM since 2002 and is the International Contact Partner for audit and assurance clients. Commencing his professional career with a small regional practice, Steve discovered a passion for working with small-to-medium businesses and not-for-profits.

Steve was appointed as Trustee in September 2019.

Fergus Brown

Chief Executive, Holiday Parks New Zealand

Fergus worked for the New Zealand Tourism Department from 1975 and Tourism New Zealand from its inception in 1991. He spent two years as Private Secretary to the Minister of Tourism and has represented New Zealand in postings to Australia and Asia.

Based in Hong Kong he established TNZ’s Asian operation, opening offices in Taiwan and South Korea before returning to New Zealand to take up an executive position in TNZ’s head office.

He owned a motor lodge incorporating a conference facility and licensed restaurant for five years. During this time Fergus was Deputy Chairman of Go Wairarapa, the region's economic development and regional tourism organisation.

Fergus is Chief Executive of Holiday Parks New Zealand, which is a full member of TIA. He has been a Board member of Tourism Industry Aotearoa between 2007 & 2013 and from 2014 representing Motels, Other Accommodation and Hospitality. Fergus is a trustee of the Tourism Industry New Zealand Trust, the PATA NZ Trust and is a Director of ServiceIQ representing the Hospitality sector.

Fergus won the Marsh Tourism Industry Champion Award in the New Zealand Tourism Awards in 2019.

Bruce Robertson

Tourism Consultant

Bruce Robertson is one of New Zealand’s most experienced advocates and lobbyist having completed 21 years as Chief Executive of Hospitality NZ and prior to that being a senior executive with Federated Farmers. He also has significant governance experience as current Deputy Chair of Service IQ, Current Board Member of Christchurch Casinos Ltd and currently a consultant to the Board of Skyline Enterprises Ltd. Bruce is also the Independent Chair of the Gaming Machine Association of NZ, Chair of the Hospitality Training Trust, Independent Trustee on the Tourism Industry New Zealand Trust and Advocate for Vegetables.co.nz. 

In his spare time Bruce enjoys following all sport (from the couch) and spending time creating pieces of wooden art in his shed. Having recently purchased a Motor Home he is enjoying exploring NZ with his wife Barbara and their two poodles Remy and Beau.


David Perks

General Manager, WellingtonNZ

David's experience in the tourism sector in New Zealand spans over 20 years.

Following a decade with Millennium Hotels in metropolitan and provincial destinations, David led Positively Wellington Tourism and when WellingtonNZ was formed as the capital’s EDA he became General Manager – Regional Development, Destination & Attraction.

David lead the tourism, business events and i-SITE teams at as well as work developing a regional destination plan and the Wellington Convention & Exhibition Centre. Being responsible for the workforce and business growth team has enabled tourism to be at the heart of economic development activity.

David has been a Trustee of RTNZ for ten years and previously sat on the board of TIA, CINZ and i-SITE NZ representing the voice of local government. He is passionate about creating the optimum environment for the development of a sustainable tourism sector that benefits every community.
